Dr. Nagaraj Nanjappa of Kenner, LA passed away on April 2, 2021. Born in Bangalore, India, Nagaraj spent his childhood playing sports (he was a star cricket batsman), enjoying homecooked meals, and pursuing his dream of becoming a doctor. He made his dream a reality, graduating from Bangalore Medical College in 1975 and making lifelong friends in the process.
An accomplished Emergency Room physician, Dr. Nanjappa worked at several local hospitals, including Bogalusa Medical Center and Lallie Kemp Medical Center. At 24 years old, Nagaraj met the love of his life, Padmini, whom he was married to for 43 years. A doting husband, “Nags” showered Padmini with love through acts of service, whether it was running late night errands or fixing up the house. Together, they traveled the world, created a beautiful home, established a wonderful community of friends, and raised their daughter Meghan. Nagaraj loved Meghan with all his heart, and she will carry on his love for dogs, baseball caps, and the New Orleans Saints.
A true Renaissance man, Nagaraj’s talents included gardening, painting, cooking, and baking. His legacy of compassionately caring for others and living life to the fullest will carry on in the many, many lives he touched: his patients, colleagues, friends and family. In addition to Padmini and Meghan, he is survived by five siblings and their spouses, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal and loving dogs Decker and
Bubba. He will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service and visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Sunday, April 11, 2021 beginning at 9:00AM.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Santosha Village, an organization supporting the homeless in New Orleans - https://santoshavillage.org/donate.
