

Mrs. Sherwood was born on October 29, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1939 when her father, William Howard Summerville, Sr., became the general manager of WWL-Radio. She quickly assimilated into her new home and made many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Howard Summerville, Sr. and Eva Louise Jones Summerville, her husband, Edward Read Sherwood, II, and her son, Joseph Sherwood. She is survived by six children: Edward Read Sherwood, III (Kelly Ann Chambers), Christopher Howard Sherwood (Michel Louise Copping), William Herrick Sherwood (Maria “Tutty” Horvitz), Katherine S. Goins (Jeffrey Goins), Nancie S. Linder (Joseph Linder), and Julianne S. Thomas (Lance Donovan “Donnie” Thomas). She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Marguerite S. Beck (John Robert Beck, III), Andrew Christopher Sherwood, Lynn Chambers Sherwood (Tyler Cochrane), Jonathan Horvitz Sherwood, Nicholas Chambers Sherwood, Daniela Horvitz Sherwood, Lee Chambers Sherwood, Katherine McCormick Goins, Sara Read Linder, Otis Matthew Goins, Read Donovan Thomas, and Matthew Donovan Thomas. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Lucille “Lucy” Annette Beck. Nancie was a devout Catholic, and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State Street in New Orleans, on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Mark Thibodeaux, S.J. officiating. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Holy Name of Jesus School, or Masses said in the memory of Nancie Summerville Sherwood, are preferred.
