Nancy Titus Athas

Our beloved Nancy Carolyn Titus Athas passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025 at the age of 93. Nancy was born to Dora Berndt and Hiram Gilbert Titus on June 17, 1931 and grew up on a dairy farm in Jamesville, New York.

She was a loving wife to the late Alexander ‘Greek’ Athas, a loyal member of the Greek Orthodox Community and active in the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. As a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by son, Alexander Peter (Karen), daughter, Deborah Dardis, daughter-in-law, Mary Ann McGill, grandchildren, Alex (Holly), Christian (Kaci), Peter (Molly), Nancy Webb (Justin), Melody LeBlanc (Robert), and Carl Dieck (Amy), and great-grandchildren, Drake, Branson, Sophie Jane, Vivian, Elliott, Sophie Elizabeth, Brennan, Elise, and Braydon. Nancy also leaves behind sister, Camilla (Joe) Mengwasser, brothers, Peter (Bonnie) and Steve (Margaret) Titus, former daughter-in-law, Mary Ann McGill, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, who all held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gerald (Shirley, Barbara) Titus, son, Stephen James, and grandson, Matthew Zechariah Dardis.

Nancy was the 'glue' who held the family together, and she was beautiful, fun, strong, hardworking, and still as independent as she could possibly be to the end. She loved her family, working in her yard, puzzles, Mardi Gras with family, playing cards, and watching sports. We will miss Sunday family get-togethers at her home, full of her delicious Greek meals, and watching football. Her loving strength and resilience will be missed as she joyfully joins our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Visitation and a funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Allen Toussaint Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70122. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to the visitation between 9:30am and 11:00am and the funeral service at 11:00am.
