

Noel Aubert Zeringue went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 4, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Born December 25, 1921, he was the beloved husband of Thelma Abadie until her passing in 1978. He later married Elsie Hymel until her passing in 2005. He was father to the late Michael Anthony Zeringue and Andera Zeringue and father in law to Edward Zeringue. Son of the late Augustine Troxclair and Andre Aubert Zeringue, he is proceed in death by all of his siblings: Therese D'aquin, Antoine, Edward, Leonard, and Mabel Waguespack. He was God-father to Raymond Zeringue and Angela Grandeurd. Noel's four grandchildren were Rebecca Matherne (Mark), Michelle Campo, Jeanne' Oubre (Gabriel), and Brock Zeringue (Rebecca). He is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Madison Ayuso, Jace Oubre, Abby Matherne, Ella Matherne, Gabrielle Oubre, Hunter Zeringue, and Reid Zeringue and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Born and raised on Whitney Plantation in Wallace, LA, Noel was drafted but voluntarily joined the Navy for the duration of World War II, serving nearly 4 years as a US Navy patrol torpedo operator. After proudly serving his country, he moved to New Orleans in 1946 where he resided until he lost his home to Hurricane Katrina. He then relocated to Bayou Gauche, LA with his daughter and son in law for the next 10 years before moving to Ashton Manor Assisted Living in Luling, LA. Noel's career with Kaiser Aluminum in Chalmette spanned nearly 30 years. Throughout his life, he exemplified integrity to his faith, family, and country. He enjoyed volunteering at St Raphael's Catholic Church, offering service to those in need, visiting casinos, playing bingo, watching football, dining, and gardening. He maintained a garden until the age of 93, donating vegetables to family, friends, and neighbors. He was always willing to tell stories about his Navy days, sing a hymn or patriotic song, and share about his medal of Honor. Over the last year, Noel made many new friends with the residents and staff of Ashton Manor. Noel's family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff of Ashton Manor and St Catherine's Hospice for their patient and loving care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Noel's service on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with a Mass at 12:00 PM followed by an interment at Lake Lawn Mausoleum with military honors.
