September 11, 1926 – February 5, 2020
Norma Gohd, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. Robert S. Gohd, and beloved mother of Robin Gohd (Loretta), Susan Gohd (Ralph), and Jeffry Gohd (Marjean). She was also a grandmother of four and great-grandmother of four. Norma was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, and was a graduate of New Jersey State Teachers College (Kean University). There were many friends that made Norma's life worth living. Her visit with Ruth's children, Catherine and Grace, gave her a huge enjoyment that never faded. As a longtime volunteer, the friendships and comradery at Children's Hospital was another great enjoyment for Norma. The love and enthusiasm she had reading to the young children at the hospital always gave her a since of purpose and lasting friends. Norma created many tight friendships with the workers and volunteers at Children's Hospital which became part of her family. Another love and additional friendships came when she volunteered for the Miracle League of New Orleans, an organization that provides sporting opportunities for disabled children. Norma touched the hearts of many people, whether it was the men that worked on her car at the mechanic shop down the street or the workers at the various bars and restaurants we went to. Norma, you will be missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:00PM. Interment will be private. Norma and I shared so many adventures… as tennis partners on a team from City Park, competing in “The Thursday Night League” against various clubs; as companion walkers at the Crescent City Classic; as participants for many years at events such as the Greek Festival and the Norwegian Festival, and activities in City Park in the Botanical Gardens and the New Orleans Museum of Art. And also sharing our love of books. Our mutual favorites were picture books and middle-grade novels. We had spirited conversations about every nuance of these books. And especially precious were the meals shared with family and friends. What a caring, giving, dynamic personality. I will always treasure our time together.

Norma and I became friends later in her life because of our volunteer work. She gave so much of herself to others, especially children, through books that she shared or read with them when they were sick. She was so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. What a sweet, giving nature she had, that I will miss dearly.
My sincere condolences toJeff, Susan and her other family members and friends.
