Ona Claire Dassinger Carimi, a native of New Orleans and resident of Baton Rouge, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in the loving presence of her family. She was born on November 28, 1933, to Peter Dassinger and Florence Reynolds Dassinger.
Ona Claire enjoyed a wonderful life filled with family and friends, which included traveling with family and friends to the beach, ski resorts, LSU sporting events, and cruises to ports around the world. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished the time she shared with her loving husband and family.
She loved cooking and never missed an opportunity to host a family lunch or dinner on Sundays as well as hosting a St. Joseph’s Altar at her home where she invited family, friends and neighbors. She was a very special lady who exhibited kindness, warmth, strength, and generosity and was always ready to give of herself to those who needed someone to listen.
She will be dearly missed by those who were privileged to have known her. She is survived by her three children, Claire Linn Carimi Lassalle (Joseph), Arlene Carimi Edwards, and John Mario Carimi (Margaret); six grandchildren, Laurie Lassalle Jennings (Matthew), Jennifer Lassalle Hall ( Patrick), Dana Edwards Danos, Edwin Nolan Edwards ( Holly), Stephen R. Edwards, Jr. ( Christie), and Bret Miquez (Fiancee, Hali and her son, T.J.); and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor Jennings, Mason Jennings, John Patrick Hall, Catherine Hall, Sadie Danos, Jolene Danos, Zoe Edwards, and Nolan Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her wonderful, loving husband of 61 years, Anthony B. Carimi; her youngest son, James Peter Carimi; her parents; and her brother, Peter James Dassinger.
Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Monday, September, 28, 2026, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery on Canal Boulevard, New Orleans.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all those special ‘angels’ at St. James Place who loved and cared for her as if she were family; and to the staff at Baton Rouge Hospice for their care and compassion.
