

Patricia Adam Cleary, 86, a native of New Orleans, died peacefully at home after a brief illness on Friday, November 21, 2014. Mrs. Cleary is the daughter of Dr. Alfred and Anna (nèe King) Adam and is survived by her children from her first husband, J. Donald Kelley (deceased): Kevin P. Kelley and his wife Alicia R. Kelley, Timothy P. Kelley, and Glenn P. Kelley; and grandchildren Liam Kelley, Sean Kelley, and Shannon Kelley. She is also predeceased by her second husband, William E. Cleary, whom she spent many years with in Lake Charles, La. She had a remarkable whit and is remembered for her charming sense of humor. She graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School in 1944 and from Louisiana State University in 1949. Shortly after making her debut in New Orleans society in 1951, she left for Chicago and hosted a national radio show where she used the platform to address postwar food shortages in Europe and a new approach to nutrition in the United States. She then returned to New Orleans where she worked as a clinical dietitian at the Charity and Veterans Administration Hospitals in New Orleans; served as President of the New Orleans and Louisiana Dietetic Associations, and was active at a national level with the American Dietetic Association. She enjoyed travel passionately throughout her life and was fortunate to live abroad on several occasions. She returned to New Orleans for the last twenty five years where she was a parishioner of St Clement of Rome Church. Family and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery.
