Paul Louis Dubuisson passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at his home in Metairie, Louisiana at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty Compagno Dubuisson. Paul was born in New Orleans, to the late Grant James Dubuisson and Blanche Caruso Dubuisson. He was a 1959 graduate of Holy Cross High School, attended LSUNO (University of New Orleans) and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1963. Paul served in the United States Navy from 1959 -1965, with two years of active duty in the Pacific aboard the USS General William Mitchell. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer Aerographer’s Mate Second Class.
Paul is survived by his children, Christine Dubuisson Perkins and her husband Tom, and Mark James Dubuisson and his wife Traci, and his beloved grandchildren, Connelly Grant James Dubuisson, Emma Elizabeth Dubuisson, Gavin Thomas Perkins, Emelia Katharine Perkins, and Graham Downing Perkins. He is also survived by his five sisters, Eleanor Dubuisson Hooper, Aimee Dubuisson, Margaret Dubuisson Blitch, Elizabeth Dubuisson Hester and Mary Dubuisson White, and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Anthony Compagno. He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Paul enjoyed a successful career as a New York Life Insurance agent and financial advisor. Previously, he worked in medical sales for Meade Johnson Pharmaceuticals and Gerber.
Paul was a master woodworker and could build anything from a pirogue to a beautiful set of kitchen cabinets. He assisted with many a Pinewood Derby racecar for his Cub Scout nephews. Of his pirogues, Paul said they were so well-built and operated so efficiently that he could push-pole one across his front lawn after a rain shower.
He coached his son Mark’s soccer teams from the moment he began playing at Lafreniere Park. Paul was especially proud of having coached Brother Martin High School’s Eighth Grade/Freshmen State Championship soccer team for the 1986-87 season. Mark was a star player.
He was an avid racing fan; both boat racing and auto racing were sports in which he participated. Earlier in life, Paul piloted his own hydroplane race boat in competition and was the recipient of many first-place finishes. Later, his grandson, Connelly, began racing Legends and Bandolero cars and Paul was his mechanic, pit crew, and biggest supporter.
Paul was the ultimate Louisiana sportsman and cherished the time he spent at the duck camp and mornings waiting in a blind for the ducks to fly in at first light. He loved to talk about hunting almost as much as he loved doing it, and regaled family and hunting buddies with tales from the woods.
