Paula E. Dauphin “Aunt Paula”, born on March 7, 1919 passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the age of 104. She graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School. She worked at the Federal Government Selective Services for over 30 years until she retired. She worked for the U.S. Navy in confidential communications, and assisted all branches of the military through the Department of Treasury. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association, Delegate of the 1996 Democratic National Convention, and Democrats of Greater Tucson; and she was an organizer for the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE). Although Aunt Paula had no children of her own, she was dedicated to the care of her elderly mother as well as the care and hands-on upbringing of four generations of nieces and nephews. She was a longtime resident of New Orleans and a true patriot who was proud to be considered part of “The Greatest Generation”. She later moved to Tucson, AZ where she was active in various community and civic organizations including serving as a Democratic National Convention delegate and helped in several Arizona state senate campaigns. She traveled extensively throughout the world, met people of all cultures, religions and walks of life. Aunt Paula was extremely giving, never met a stranger and was known for always sharing, even if it was just a kind word. She settled in Baton Rouge in her later years and was lovingly cared for by her great nephews, Michael Wilks (Gina) and James Wilks (Jeannie). Aunt Paula enjoyed leisurely walks, meaningful conversations, and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed all family gatherings and continued to nurture children of each generation. Aunt Paula’s contagious smile, stories of life and adventure, respect for all God’s children, and her ever-present positive attitude will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to call her “their Aunt Paula”. She is preceded in death by her parents, William P. Dauphin and Elizabeth R. Dauphin; sisters, Jeanne, Eunice, and Claire; brothers, Robert, Elwin, Wilbur, and Norman; numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and their children. The family would like to give special thanks to her extended family at Landmark South in Baton Rouge, LA. Services will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM followed by a service at 2:00PM with Rev. Malcom Richard, officiating. Interment will be at Metairie Cemetery.
