Peter Borstell was born on December 2, 1955, in Amityville, New York, and passed away on July 19, 2026, in Jefferson, Louisiana, at the age of 70. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Duke University and his Juris Doctorate from Tulane University. He was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, Alliance for Good Government, and MOMS.
Peter was a lifelong lover of music, reading, and Duke basketball. He enjoyed attending performances by local artists. He was a huge fan of Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. Peter was a native of Hauppauge, New York, before he made his home here in New Orleans in 1978. He was an attorney and practiced law for 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Lois Borstell; and sister, Ellen Borstell.
Peter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan Borstell; son, Billy Borstell; sister, Kathy Guepet; and uncle, Randy Hopf.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM with a memorial service following at 1 PM. Pete will be laid to rest privately in Metairie Cemetery at a later date.
