Pete was the husband of Salvadora “Sally” Cazalot for an amazing 59 years. Sally passed fifteen months prior, and since then Pete wanted most to join her. Mourning his loss are his children, Yvonne Cazalot, Laurie Bergeron, Michele Weathington, and Peter Cazalot III, and his grandchildren, Ashley, Timothy, Corey, Jack, and Briggs, his great granddaughters, Isabella and (expecting) Emma Grace, and his sister-in-law Graciela “Gracie” Estrada.
Pete was born on the 4th of July and played baseball like it. He was a celebrated third baseman, short stop, and pitcher, winning a 1947 American Legion Championship with the Jesuit Blue Jays and a NORD championship with the Fortier Tarpons. “Pint-Size Pete” finished his baseball career in the 1950s professional league as a short stop and third baseman of the New Orleans Pelicans. He continued to be an athlete and avid sports fan, playing softball, basketball, and bowling, coaching his children’s teams, and following all manner of sports, especially the Saints, Pelicans, Zephyrs/Baby Cakes, Green Wave, and Tigers, hardly missing a game throughout the rest of his life. Pete was King of the Krewe of Rhea in 2006, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and President of the Elenore Dad’s Club.
Perhaps Pete’s most lasting accomplishment was to become the caring and devoted “PawPaw” to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their respective spouses. They will sorely miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Gilbert Cazalot Sr. and Rosalie Thelma Reyer Cazalot, his brothers, Maurice “Morris” Cazalot, Clarence “Buddy” Cazalot, and Paul Cazalot, and by his wife Sally Cazalot.
