

Philip Donatien Lorio, Jr. peacefully passed away following a lengthy illness on January 16, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born in New Orleans, LA on September 3, 1922. Loving husband of Helen Mayeux Lorio for 70 years, father of Philip Donatien Lorio III (Kathryn Venturatos) and Kathryn Anne Lorio. He was the son of the late Philip Donatien Lorio, Sr. and Agnes Toups Lorio, one of 12 children. Brother of Reverend Lloyd Lorio, S. J., Missionary in Sri Lanka, Paul(Joan), Thomas(Tally), John(Joycelyn), Sr. Dorothy, O.P., Rosemary Millet(Stanley). Preceded in death by Sr. Mary Agnes, SSND and Sr. Theresa Louise, SSND and brothers Harry, Andrew, and James Lorio. Grandfather of Christopher Lorio(Laura), Elisabeth Lorio Baer(Jason), and Philip D. Lorio IV(Megan). Great grandfather of Carly, Reagan, Brendan Lorio, Carter and Caitlyn Baer. A host of many nieces and nephews and Linda T. Smith of Coral Gables, FL. Philip was a graduate of Loyola University. He volunteered to serve in the Army in 1942, transferring to the Army Air Force for raining to be a Navigator. He flew combat missions in World War II and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1945 as a First Lieutenant. A few years later he was called to serve as a Navigator in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He flew 55 night missions in Korea, earning numerous decorations for his services in combat. He worked at Perry & Buckley Office Furniture and Supplies Co. and retired as President in 1984. The classic gentleman, Philip was kind and impeccably mannered. A spiritual man who practiced and exemplified his faith. He was devoted to his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who shall miss their loving "Paupie." Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the chapel at 12:00 PM. Interment will be held in Metairie Cemetery. Donations may be made to Jesuit Missionary, in the name of Reverend Lloyd Lorio, S.
