Her eighty three years were filled with family, friends, flowers, and faith. She was dedicated to finding and creating beauty in people, places and things.
A licensed Interior Designer, and avid Master Horticulturist; Priscilla splashed color, beauty and vivacity into her relationships and projects.
She was a fabulous cook, extraordinary hostess and world-record fisherwoman. Priscilla travelled often and with purpose. She was part of many clubs, groups and organizations in which she took hold of every opportunity to contribute, lead, or teach.
Her presence could not be ignored. An encounter with Priscilla was always interesting, meaningful, memorable, or all three. She left you feeling understood, challenged, and cared for, whether you agreed with her or not.
Priscilla grew up elegantly on Third Street in the garden district of New Orleans and spent summers of grit and horseback at the Ingersoll Great Hills farm in Bedford, New York.
She attended Miss Aiken, McGehee, and All Saints schools. She studied at Louisiana State University, Harvard Business School and the New York School of Interior Design.
Priscilla worked for McMillen & Company in New York City for several years and returned to New Orleans to establish her own design practice.
She married Maumus “TiMau” Claverie, Jr. with whom she parented his son Maumus III.
Later in life, she divorced and moved to Aiken, South Carolina where she expanded her circle and remained connected to TiMau, Maumus III, and her diaspora of extended family and friends.
A stroke in 2021 confined her to a wheelchair but she carried on with faith and courage. Friends and family rallied to her aid for half a decade. None with more diligence and love than Pamela Pipes and Dian Winingder.
To all her dear ones, we family members express our deepest gratitude and offer her favorite prayer:
“The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
Priscilla was predeceased by her parents, Cornelia Howard Ingersoll Jordan and Thomas Leslie Jordan; her siblings Thomas Leslie Jordan Jr., Cornelia Howard “Dolly” Jordan, Ingersoll Jordan, Gay Jordan, TiMau, and her nephew Winchester Fitch Jordan.
She is survived by Maumus Francois Claverie III, his wife and her niece Townsend Derby Jordan Claverie, their children Maumus Francois Claverie IV, Banner Ingersoll Claverie, Derby Jordan Claverie, Dorothea Collings Claverie, Elias Hasket Claverie, and Abigail Esther Claverie; her niece Whitney Crowninshield Jordan; her sister-in-law Esther Lorraine Hagstette Jordan: nieces and nephews Alta Lorraine Jordan, Priscilla Katherine Jordan Cargo, Thomas Edward Samuel Jordan, Dolly Gay Susan Jordan, William Edmund Leslie Jordan, and her great nieces and nephews.
Thursday, June 18th, at Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans, her life will be celebrated with a traditional service at 2:00pm. Visitation will begin at 12:30. The service will be live-streamed and reception will follow in the Parish House on site.
Consider wearing a splash or more of color.
Please plant something beautiful in a garden on Priscilla’s behalf.
