

R. Douglas Bostick Jr., M.D. passed away peacefully and entered into eternal rest on April 18, 2026. He was born on August 9, 1941 in New Orleans. He attended Jesuit High School (‘60), graduating from LSUNO, and earning his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans (‘67). Dr. Bostick completed his pediatric residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, where he was honored to serve as Chief Resident.
Dr. Bostick served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and Chief of Pediatrics at a naval hospital in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 1973, he returned home to New Orleans, where he established a private pediatric practice, the Bostick-Guy Clinic on the Westbank. In 1986, he merged his practice with Westside Clinics. Over a remarkable 50- year career, Dr. Bostick became a deeply respected pediatrician, caring for generations of families.
Dr. Bostick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Douglas Bostick and Mildred Vigier Bostick; his wife, Jane Smullen Bostick; and his sister, Roberta Simon.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Marie Domino Bostick; his children, Denise Bostick (Gerard), R. Douglas Bostick III, M.D. (Gwen), Bridget Bostick Perry, and Megan Bostick Kreuer (Keith); and his stepchildren, Molly Ramirez (Jose) and Patrick McNeill (Olivia). He was a proud and loving Pawpaw to ten grandchildren: Grant Bostick, Jane Bostick, Jack Kreuer, Reagan Perry, Olivia Perry, Elaina Perry, Matthew Gravois, Alex Gravois, Ronnie Gravois and Hannah Ramirez, as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Maurice Bostick (Vicki), Cynthia Plaisance (Kerry), and multiple nieces and nephews.
Dr. Bostick was a vibrant soul, always smiling. To know Dr. Bostick was to love him. He was known for his kindness, warmth, and unwavering positivity. He defined what it means to be a family man and set the example for many. He found joy in painting, wood working, DIY house projects, fishing, and filling a room with laughter. He was passionate about taking care of children as a pediatrician and maintained his medical license even after retirement. His presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, Pawpaw, uncle, physician, and friend. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana 70124. Visitation begins at 10:00am with a Memorial Mass to follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Metairie Cemetery in All Saints Mausoleum.
