Regina Despina Argy Vafides, age 92, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2020. Regina was a native of New Orleans, LA. In 1965, she and her husband, George moved to Nashville, TN, to build a new car dealership, Star Chrysler Plymouth, on Charlotte Ave. Regina lived a dynamic and rich life, surviving the depression and war as a child. She traveled the world, spoke several languages, and lived a life that should be told in film. A one-of-a-kind personality, she commanded a room with her vibrant voice, New Orleans accent and a head of red hair, with a cigarette in hand. She was elegant, and loved to tell stories; often colorful according to her audience. Regina loved to play Canasta with a regular group of long-time friends and knit afghans.
Regina is preceded in death by her husband of 60-years, George B. Vafides, her sister, Delores A. Plakotos, brother-in-law George Plakotos and parents Argyro and Gus Argy. She is survived by her three daughters: Ashley V. Eighmy (Ford), Tara V. Alford (Andrew) and Laura V. Deason (Larry); granddaughter Lacey B. Edwards (Gairdt); great-grandson Gus Edwards; niece Rhea P. Lazarus (Juan Carlos) and God children Adrienne D. Owen and Joy L. Wuertz.
Funeral services are in New Orleans at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Friday, October 16th, 2020. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am.
