Renee F. Dugas passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on August 4, 1951, Renee was the beloved daughter of Robert J. Fryer and Katherine A. Fryer. She proudly called Metairie, Louisiana home throughout her life.
Renee shared her life with her enduring husband of 55 years, John “JAY” Dugas, and her cherished son, John Dugas, Jr. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Renee was a proud graduate of Nicholls High School and always looked forward to catching up with lifelong friends at their school reunions.
Renee loved decorating her home, especially for Mardi Gras and Christmas. Many of her family's most cherished memories were made at her lake house in Eden Isles, where she loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Renee took immense joy in family, especially when the lake house was filled with the laughter of her nieces and nephews, and she loved nothing more than watching their little children run around and play.
Renee spent decades sponsoring countless people in AA, where she was deeply loved and admired for her strength, resilience, and leadership.
Renee, alongside her husband, Jay, owned and operated many successful businesses over the years. She took the most pride in their Midas auto repair shop, where her impeccable record-keeping, flawless book work, and sharp attention to detail propelled the business to number one in the region for many years. Her legacy of hard work also helped grow their Metairie business, Supreme, that is proudly run by her son, John, today.
Aside from her business and community work, Renee had a deep love for shopping, especially tuning into QVC. She also had many pets over the years, and she loved them very much.
Renee was a loving sister to her surviving brother, Robert J. Fryer. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: John Henry Fryer, Monroe A. Fryer, Sr., William O. Fryer, Elizabeth Boyd, and Linda Peterson.
When she wasn't managing businesses, helping others, or hosting family, Renee was an avid world traveler. She achieved elite Platinum Status on her favorite cruise lines and journeyed all over the globe, exploring Europe, Spain, and Italy. Of all her travels, her absolute favorite was heading down under to Australia to visit dear friends.
Renee's sudden passing from a massive stroke took us all by surprise. We will be forever grateful to the doctors and nurses of LCMC East Jefferson Hospital for their efforts and compassion.
Renee’s warmth, sharp mind, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she served so well.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124. The visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the funeral mass at 2:00 pm. The interment will follow within Metairie cemetery. A repass for family and friends to celebrate Renee’s life will follow from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Quarter View Restaurant, located at 613 Clearview Parkway, Metairie, Louisiana 70001.
