Renee Nugent Read Mann was born in New Orleans on July 9th, 1950 to Marthe Adele Scott Read “M’Adele” of Alexandria, LA, and Charles Favrot Read Sr. of New Orleans, LA. She passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2022 with her family by her side.
When Renee was a young girl, her family moved across the lake to Covington where she had the great fortune to grow up in Favrotville with her siblings and many cousins around. From family holiday gatherings that involved brulot and song books to the annual Easter Egg hunt and summer days at the Big Pool, Renee created many cherished memories in Favrotville.
She attended St. Scholastica Academy, and she graduated with a Bachelors from LSU where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Renee loved the LSU tigers and was an avid fan of all LSU sports. She worked in the medical and hospitality industries in New Orleans prior to starting her own company, RM Services, over 30 years ago to broker silver, china, crystal, and linens. After spending much of her adult life in New Orleans and Nashville, Renee returned to Covington, a place near and dear to her heart.
Her family was the greatest joy of her life. Affectionately called “Nee Nee” by her children and grandchildren, she rarely missed a sporting or school event. Renee loved all holidays and any occasion to bring immediate and extended family together. She was the keeper of family traditions and heirlooms, and she found tremendous purpose and joy as the family historian, compiling numerous genealogy records going as far back as the 1600’s up to current generations.
She was preceded in death by her canine companion for eternity, Elvis Lynn. She was also preceded in death by her brother Charles Favrot Read Jr. “Rusty” (Cookie) of Covington. She is survived by her siblings M’Adele Read Irvin (Jim) of New Orleans, Meg Read Roy (Catherine) of Baton Rouge, Sidonie Read Petagna (Keith) of Pass Christian, MS, and Baldwin Read (Tracy) of Covington and by her former husband and friend Joe Sanders Mann Sr. of Covington.
She is also survived by her three children and eight grandchildren. Marthe Mann Souza - Katelyn, William, and Walker of Atlanta, GA. Joseph Sanders Mann Jr. (Dorothy) - Frances, Louise, and Legier of New Orleans. Charles Read Mann Sr. (Terryn) - Charlie Read and Sanders of New Orleans.
Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Renee’s life at Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans on Saturday June 25th, 2022. Visitation will begin at 9:30, mass to follow at 10:30. Interment will be private. Renee’s family would like to thank the medical team at Lakeview Regional Medical Center for the tremendous level of care given to her over the past nine months. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the SPCA of Louisiana (www.louisianaspca.org) or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) in her name.
