

Richard James Borner, age 89 years, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Ochsner – Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Borner was born in Chicago, IL on July 25, 1926 to the late James Paul Borner and Delores Biechner Borner. He graduated in 1944 from Lakeview High School in Chicago and served his country in the US Army during WWII, assigned to the 45th Infantry, “The Thunderbirds”. After the war he was hired by Oscar Mayer and Co. in 1947. On July 4, 1951, he married Leona Bobrzecki. In 1958, he completed studies for a diploma from Northwestern University School of Business. He worked as an Oscar Mayer sales executive in several cities before being assigned to the New Orleans area in 1971. The family resided in River Ridge, LA. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Leona B. Borner; sons, Mark Richard Borner and wife Susan of Kenner, LA and Bruce Joseph Borner and wife Amanda of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Ruppel, John Borner, and Katherine and Christine Borner; great grandchild, James C. Ruppel; brother, Norman Borner and wife Olive of Lake Geneva, WI; and sister, Barbara Nelson of Chicago, IL. Mr. Borner was a member of the Chateau Golf and Country Club, St. Matthew the Apostle Ushers Society for years, and the Knights of Columbus in the 1970’s. He enjoyed playing golf and travel near and far. He retired from Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods in 1991 after 43 years of dedicated employment. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin in the chapel at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
