

Richard “Red” Spindel, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born April 29, 1931 to the late Earl Martin Spindel and Enola Frilot Spindel. He is survived by his beloved wife (who he called my bride) of 65 years, Ann Roppolo Spindel. He had 4 children, Patricia (late Dr. John S. Thiele), Richard Spindel, Sr. (Kim), Keith Spindel, Sr. (Judy) and Michael Spindel (Loraine). 9 grandchildren Lacie (Joey), Johnny (Jen), Ricky (Darlene), Kevin (Lindsey), Leslie (Lloyd), Keith Jr., Gerard (Frida), Michele, and the late Korey, and Timothy Lynch, Jr. 7 great grandchildren Tyler, Kaleb, Dylan, J.T.,III, Jacob, Tristan and Grace. Brother Alfred Spindel (Sylvia), sister Enola (Dookie) Naquin (Addie) and the late Earl Spindel (Liz). All his nieces and nephews were so very special to him, as well as Amanda Thiele. In his younger days Red was an accomplished amateur boxer. He graduated from S. J. Peters in New Orleans where he played basketball, football, and ran track. In 1980 he was inducted to the Hall of Fame Commercial Athletic Association. He was a member of WeDK Social and Athletic Association, Good Friends, Little Dizzies Friday Morning Breakfast Club, and was President of Sacred Heart High School Federal Credit Union. Richard retired as a Maintenance Supervisor from Kaiser Aluminum after 25 years of service. After his retirement he was employed by the New Orleans Parish Civil Sheriff’s Office. He loved his job as a Deputy Sheriff until he recently retired after over 27 years. He will be sadly missed by all. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association. The family also wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Passages Hospice for their patience and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA, on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until Mass.
