Richard M. Warren, M.D. peacefully died on Sunday, June 28, 2015. He was 72 years old. Son of the late James and Catherine Sullivan Warren. Loving husband for 22 years of Yvette Autin Warren. Beloved stepfather of Rachel Yuratich Morrissey (Larry) and Murphy Scott Yuratich, Jr. (Buffy). Step-grandfather of Rebecca Morrissey, Sarah Morrissey, Nicholas Yuratich, and Miya Yuratich. Brother of William Warren (Ann) and Kate Rozzen, and the late James Warren (Alice), George Warren, and Pat Warren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Richard was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1965, he graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a B.S. in Biology. He completed his internship and first medical residency at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He later became Chief Medical Resident at Kern County General Hospital in Bakersfield, California. He completed his fellowship in neurology and electroencephalography at University of Minnesota.
Richard was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Qualification in Electroencephalography, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He was a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Electroencephalography Society, American Medical Association, American Epilepsy Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, and Jefferson Parish Medical Society.
Richard was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1979, where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He also served as Battalion Surgeon and Medical Officer.
Richard was an Internist and Director of Medical Clinics at Kern County Medical Center in Bakersfield, California, Staff Neurologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Assistant Professor in the Neurology Department at University of Wisconsin Medical School, and Clinical Neurologist at Culicchia Neurological Clinic in Marrero, Louisiana.
Richard met the love of his life, Yvette, in 1987, and they have been inseparable since. Together they created a home that opened its doors wide to friend and family, where the only criteria for inclusion was one's ability to love, laugh, and eat. He was her sous chef, and she knew that whatever she asked him to do would be done to perfection. For many years they lived in their lakeside home, hosting days of boating, swimming, and crab boils. When Katrina stole that house, the couple set out in their motor home on a grand tour of the country. They then found their cabin in the woods of Tennessee, and friends and family came there from far and wide for campfires, walks in the wood, and tubing and swimming in the mountain streams and lakes. When they returned to Louisiana, Richard resumed his work at the World War II museum, where he had volunteered earlier on the recreation of the Higgins landing craft. He then spent countless hours on the restoration of the PT 305 boat used in the Mediterranean during the war, where his meticulous work was prized and admired.
Richard had a dry sense of humor, and a keen mind which could retain facts and factoids, with which he could regale his audiences.
Richard's spirit of pure goodness will shine on in all he touched, and will live on from generation to generation.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved Yvette, his family, and all those who were lucky enough to be counted as his friends.
