Rita Brignac Kaul died on Saturday, December 11, 2016 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Henry P. Kaul, Jr.; parents, Sidonie Hymel Brignac and Hamilton Joseph Brignac; and her siblings, Rena Hymel, Mabel Hymel, Gladys Barbier, Eunice Marrero, Thelma Brignac, Clarence Brignac, Lester Brignac, Raymond Brignac, and Milton Brignac. Also survived by her brother, Julian Brignac of Baltimore, and many nieces and nephews. Loving mother of Diane K. Smith (Milton), Yvonne M. Kaul, and Henry P. Kaul III. Grandmother of Milton Smith, Jr. She is also survived by her granddogs, Zoe, Zia, Zasha, and Dottie. Rita was born on February 13, 1922 in Gramercy, LA and resided in Arabi, LA for 48 years. She was a parishioner of St. Louise de Marillac and a member of the Society of Fr. Francis Xavier Seelos. After Katrina she moved to Bush until the loss of her husband, Henry, in 2010. She proudly served her country as a Marine working in the Post Office in Oceanside, CA during the Korean War. She became a resident of the Southeast Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Reserve, LA for the past six years, where she was treated with exceptional care by the entire staff. Rita never met a stranger – She loved people. She will fondly be remembered for her sense of humor, generosity, gratitude, her love of flowers, and Creole cooking. Her sweet smile will be greatly missed and remembered forever. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM.
