Robert Joseph Guizerix, 84, was born June 17, 1939 in New Orleans, LA. He passed away peacefully at his home on September 10, 2023. Robert graduated with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Tulane University and served four years in the United States Air Force. He spent his career at the New Orleans District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he worked for 31 years before retiring in 1999. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie, a member of Metairie Country Club, and an inaugural member of the Touchdown Club of New Orleans, Inc.
Robert had many interests. He was an active tennis player and played tennis with his friend, the late Roy Perrin, multiple times a week for nearly 50 years. He was an avid traveler and journeyed yearly for three decades with Smithsonian. His adventures brought him to Greece, Lebanon and Turkey; the tombs of Ancient Egypt; the Swiss Alps; a safari in Kenya; and more. He was a charming storyteller and documented his many explorations in a series of short stories he coined “Vignettes.” He loved history and genealogy and researched generations of relatives to share with his family. He was devoted to LSU football and the New Orleans Saints—though often frustrated by both.
Robert was loved by so many. His relatives and friends use many words to describe him: spontaneous, loving, generous, devoted, witty, consistent, thoughtful and gentle. Above all, he was present.
Robert is survived by his brother, A.P. Guizerix, Jr. and sister-in-law, Patricia Holmes Guizerix; his nieces and nephews, by whom he was affectionately referred to as “Unc”, Skipper Guizerix (Christine Boone), Lorraine Thomas Guizerix, Kathy Guizerix Faucett (Mark), and Tricia Guizerix Gipson (Walter); grandnieces and grandnephews, Katie Faucett Thompson (Colin), Chris Guizerix (Anna Gibbs), Mimi Faucett Trahan (Cory), Jaquelyn Guizerix, Nichole Guizerix Orem (Nicholas), Amanda Guizerix Bingham (Robert), Stefanie Guizerix Burns (Matthew), Mitco Gipson (Somner Dykes), William Guizerix, Krisztina Gipson, and Jonathan Gipson; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, Lucy Thompson, Elle Thompson, Maggie Guizerix, Olyvia Ortiz, Hadley Burns, Annie Trahan, Iris Gipson and Jack Bingham; and many beloved friends, godchildren and relatives, including his first cousin Denise Crochet. Robert is preceded in death by parents, Armand Paul and Mildred Vetter Guizerix; nephew, David James Guizerix; and great-grandnephew, Gabriel David Orem. Robert's family is grateful to his dedicated caregiver, Edith Mansur.
