Robert A. Mara Jr.

Robert A. Mara, Jr. lost his battle with cancer at his home on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of 54 years to Jennie Lee Danove Mara. Devoted father of Michael Mara (Della), Vickie Duffel (Raymond), and Lisa Solito (Joseph). A much loved grandfather to Melissa (Johnathan), Joseph III, Blaise, Bryce, Sarah, Holly (Beau), Kyle, and Collin. Great grandfather to Madelyn Rae. Also survived by his sisters, Pat Junca and Gaynel Mara and brother-in-law, Art Danove, as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was born in New Orleans to the late Robert and Mercedes Mara. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a long time employee of United Fruit Company and United Brands. He is a retired member of ILA Local 1497 N. O. Clerks & Checkers, and also a long time Treasurer of N. O. Clerks & Checkers FCU. An avid fisherman, he loved and enjoyed his camp in Grand Isle, traveling across the U.S. and Canada in his RV, and enjoyed many trips abroad. Spending time with his family and friends was his greatest pleasure. He was loved by many and his influences were immeasurable. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Monday at 9:00AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
