

Robert Henry Sarpy, Jr., passed away Tuesday, July 21, at the age of 75, surrounded by his adoring family. A native of New Orleans, Henry attended Isidore Newman School and graduated from De La Salle High School. After graduating from Dartmouth College, Henry attended Tulane University Law School and New York University School of Law, where he received an L.L.M. in Taxation. He was admitted into the Louisiana Bar in 1965, and was a partner at Jones Walker for his entire professional career. During his 40 year plus legal practice, Henry was active in many organizations, including the American Bar Association, Louisiana Association of Defense Council, Louisiana Bar Association, and the New Orleans Bar Association. He was Vice President of the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel and on the Board of Trustees. Henry was actively involved in the New Orleans community. He was on the Board of Trinity Episcopal School, a member of the New Orleans Country Club, Boston Club, Louisiana Club, Stratford Club, Recess Club, and several carnival organizations. He was an avid golfer and loved to fish. A true gentleman, Henry will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched with his kindness, good humor, and loving personality.
Henry is predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Frances Oliver of Savannah, Georgia, and his sister, Jeanne Leiger Sarpy McInnis. He is survived by two loving daughters, Mrs. Annie Sarpy Phillips and Mrs. Dorothy Sarpy Mann, and two loving sons, Mr. Robert Henry Sarpy, III, and Mr. James Fawcett Sarpy, six grandchildren, Nathaniel Pope Phillips, IV, Dorothy Frances Phillips, James Torras Phillips, Frances Adele Mann, Louise Wyles Mann, and Leiger Sarpy Mann, all of New Orleans.
Interment will be private. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Henry’s life July 25th at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, Lighthouse for the Blind, the Herman Grima/Gallier House or a charity of your choice.
