Bob was born in New York and grew up in New Orleans and in Far Rockaway. He graduated from John McDonogh High School and attended The University of New Orleans for one and a half years. Creator of Rose of New Orleans, named after the mother of his children (Rose Anne Suffrin). Leading into retirement he sold businesses to other businesses. Avid lover of sports betting and the blackjack table, going to Saints games with his son, dancing with his little girls in the living room to “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” rooting for the New Orleans Jazz, Saints, LSU, and the Yankees, and playing a competitive game of Rummy Q.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Antoinette “Toni” A. Augustin Schwartz.
He is survived by his children, Dann A. Schwartz (Colette), Laura B. Schwartz, Becky S. Corbett (Fletcher Hearns); his grandchildren, Rachel Schwartz (Noam Algazy), Jordan Schwartz (Kelli), Max Gutman (Stephanie), Sarah Gutman (Mark Benevento), and Liz Corbett; and his great-grandchildren, Cooper, Annie, Reilly, and Leon.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. CST at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans. A chapel service will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rabbi James (Jim) Egolf. If you wish to view the service through a livestream, there is a “Join Livestream” link embedded on his memorial website that will be accessible a few minutes prior to the beginning of services. A brief graveside burial will follow the chapel service. Guests attending in-person will be extended an invitation to join the family for a celebration of Bob’s life immediately following the funeral.
The family suggests contributions to the National Eye Institute Research Fund or Ochsner Health’s Palliative Care Innovation Fund [Under “Direct My Gift To:”, click “Select a Designation Type” and select “Other Areas to Support.” Next, click “Select a Specific Designation” and select “Palliative Care Innovation Fund”].
