John graduated from Jesuit High School in 1954 and Loyola University School of Law in 1961. He was a partner at Baldwin Haspel Burke & Meyer. During his legal career, he served as a court crier for United States District Judge J. Skelly Wright, an agent for First National American Title Insurance, and an approved closing attorney for various federal programs.
An exceptionally talented pianist, John had a lifelong passion for music and particularly enjoyed playing Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu and Scott Joplin’s The Entertainer. He loved opera, a good gin martini, and spending time in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where he made wonderful memories taking his children fishing and crabbing. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great pride and joy in his family. John and Louvin shared more than 60 years of marriage and were deeply devoted to one another. Her tireless and loving care for him in his later years reflected the enduring bond and partnership they shared throughout their lives.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Freda Heffron Skinner Everett; his father, Robert Joseph Skinner; his stepfather, James P. Everett; his brother, Edward King Skinner; and his sister, Ruth Helena Skinner.
He is survived by his wife, Louvin Hitt Skinner; his four daughters, Stephanie Skinner Leefe (David), Johanna Margaret Skinner, Caroline Helena Skinner, and Susannah Skinner Pedalino (David); and his granddaughters, Haley Grace and Harper Ruth Pedalino.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Laurel Senior Living for their kindness, compassion, and support.
