Robert "Bob" Joseph Stuckart

May 26, 1940 – March 19, 2024
Obituary of Robert "Bob" Joseph Stuckart
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Robert [Bob] Joseph Stuckart went peacefully to his heavenly home on the feast of St. Joseph, March 19, 2024. “Bob the builder” was always trying to create new inventions which would be easier for the user. He made, and continues to make, his family’s life more interesting. Bob never met a stranger and was genuinely himself in his dealings with everyone. Bob was and is a treasure from God.

Bob was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and moved to Oregon when he was an infant. His father, Theodore, was a psychologist and medical doctor who had lost part of an arm in WWI. His mother was a nurse. He had 2 siblings: a sister Mary Theresa, who continues to live in Oregon, and a deceased brother Lawrence [Larry]. His parents are both deceased.

Bob began school in Stayton, Oregon. He later attended Mount Angel Minor Seminary and then joined the Jesuits. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Licentia in Philosophy.

After discerning that the priesthood was not his calling, Bob worked as a mentor and social worker at St. Mary’s Boys Home in Beaverton, OR. He married and had his son Geoffrey. He taught at Holy Redeemer High School in Lacombe, LA. He and his first wife divorced, and he joined the Catholic Separated and Divorced Ministry. There he met Paula, became friends, and requested an annulment with the help of Msgr. Harry Bugler. Bob and Paula were married for nearly 41 years. During those years he had his daughter Elizabeth [Beth].

He worked at Ochsner for seven years, and then taught English, Religion, and Latin at Brother Martin High School for 22 years until his retirement. During his tenure at Brother Martin, he became a “grandfather” storyteller to his students.

After his retirement, Bob became involved in Call to Action, and the resettlement of immigrants. He was always a welcoming member of the of the faith community at St. Ignatius Chapel.

Bob is survived by his wife Paula; his son Geoffrey [married to Amy Edwards], and his two grandchildren, Christopher Joseph, and Katherine Elizabeth; his daughter Elizabeth [married to Allen Martin] and grandchild Sarah.

Bob is also survived by his nephews Benjamin and Nicholas who live in Washington State. Also, by Rita, Phil, and Abbie Canova; Mary, Guy, and Kaitlyn, Madeline, and Lauren McFarland; Betty, Ted Mooney; Mandy, J.P., Jenny, Mathile, and Emmaline D’Albor; John, Andrew, Cristen, and Catherine D’Albor; and Patricia, and Mary Wallace, and Jo Murphy and family. Bob was preceded in his passing by his nephew, Lee Canova.

Bob’s remains will be cremated. There will be a wake at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, at Loyola University Chapel. The funeral follows at 4p.m. in Bobet Hall at St. Ignatius Chapel, 6367 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans.
