Rodney Paul Mathews Jr.

Rodney Paul Mathews Jr., age 86, of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024. He was born on December 17, 1937. Rodney attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a co-owner of Mathews Wholesale Meats with his father and siblings for 25 years. Rodney was also a co-owner of Billy's Home Cooking in New Orleans with his wife in the early 80's, they sold it after about 6 years. Rodney was a Thoroughbred Race Horse Owner and Trainer from 1963 to about 1998, with his first of many wins in 1965. He worked on and retired from the Causeway Bridge as a toll collector.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Lee Mathews.

He is survived by his beloved spouse of 56 years, Evelyn Grace Sheppard; his daughter, Brandi Grey Mathews Ornouski (Ski Ornouski); his son, Ryder Lee Mathews (Rachael Mathews); his sister, Debbra Mathews; his brother, Ronald Knolle Mathew and his grandchildren, Raymond Ornouski and Nicholas Ornouski.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans, Louisiana, beginning at 11:00am - 1pm. A private interment will be held for the immediate family.
