Roland A. Bahan

Roland A Bahan, age 85, a resident of St. Francisville, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, November 12th, 2015. Roland, or Pops as he was more affectionately known, served as a LTJG supply officer aboard the USS Meredith in the United States Navy. He owned and operated the LaSalle Hotel in New Orleans until his retirement in 2004. He was an active member in SKAL, the Krewe of Bacchus and Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Walking Club. He was recognized as a leader in the hotel industry. He served two terms as President of the Greater New Orleans Hotel and Lodging Association and two terms as President of the Louisiana Hotel and Lodging Association. He served as President of the Deep South Chapter of the Hotel Sales Marketing Association and represented Louisiana as a director on the board of the American Hotel and Lodging Association for 16 years. Roland was appointed by New Orleans Mayor “Moon” Landrieu to the original Super Bowl Task Force and was a charter member of the Vieux Carre Commission Foundation. An avid supporter of education, he is recognized as one of the originators of the Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration School at the University of New Orleans. He also served on the Louisiana Tourism Development Commission. Pops was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Murphy Bahan. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shelley Dolliver, Sharon and James Marrs, and Laurie and Patrick Walsh; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew, Brandon, Christopher, Shane, Kellen and Darcey; and three great grandchildren, Bahan, Witten and Lilly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Services Friday, November 20th, 2015. Visitation will be held from 10am- 12pm, followed by a Memorial Service beginning at noon, at the Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hotel Restaurant and Tourism Administration at the University of New Orleans in the name of Roland Bahan.
