Ronald Anthony Messina

Ronald Anthony Messina passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 1, 2026, at the age of 80, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 3, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ronald (Ron) spent his childhood in the Lakeview neighborhood where he attended St. Dominic School. He was a proud graduate of St. Aloysius High School, Class of 1963. Ron treasured the many lifelong friendships he formed during his elementary and high school years, relationships that remained a cherished part of his life. He continued his education at Louisiana State University and Southeastern Louisiana University, earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing before beginning a successful 35-year career in medical sales. Ron was also deeply proud of his service to his country as a medic in the Louisiana Army National Guard.

Above all else, Ron's greatest joy was the family he built with Sheila, his beloved and devoted wife of 56 years. He treasured every moment spent together with his children and grandchildren, from family dinners and holiday celebrations to birthdays, graduations, and every milestone in between. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Ron was a constant source of love, encouragement, and support. Whether cheering at sporting events, applauding school performances, or celebrating life's accomplishments, he was always present. His unwavering love and steadfast dedication to his family will remain his greatest legacy.

Ron was equally devoted to his community. Mardi Gras held an incredibly special place in his heart, as he was a proud 51-year member of the Krewe of Endymion. He eagerly anticipated his annual ride in the parade and was honored to serve the organization as both a float lieutenant and board member for many years. He truly enjoyed the fellowship of the krewe, and one of his greatest pleasures was sharing the excitement and traditions of Endymion with his family. He found great pleasure in bringing everyone together, creating treasured memories through the events that became cherished family gatherings. Those moments of laughter, togetherness, and celebration were among his greatest joys.

For more than 30 years, Ron also enjoyed serving as a float captain of the St. Pat's Yats in the St. Patrick's Parade of Jefferson, creating another annual tradition that brought family and friends together and created lasting memories for those he loved.

A faithful parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, Ron took great pride in the parish community where all four of his children attended grammar school. He valued his years as an active member of the Men’s Club, where his dedication and hard work helped support church and school events and enhance numerous improvement projects.

In grateful appreciation for the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, who shaped both his own Catholic high school education and that of several members of his immediate family, Ron became a devoted volunteer and steadfast supporter of Brother Martin High School. His deep love for both St. Aloysius and Brother Martin High Schools reflected the lasting impact these institutions had on his life, and they always held a very special place in his heart.

A passionate LSU fan and longtime season ticket holder, Ron rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tigers. He also enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and cooking, especially when it meant preparing a meal to share with family and friends.

Blessed with a larger-than-life personality, Ron never met a stranger and never met a story he couldn't tell, often at great length with plenty of detail and enthusiasm. He is kindly described by many as simply a great guy. His warmth, generosity, and passion made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Vinca Messina; his brother, Dale Messina; and his nephews, Gary and Robbie Messina.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Wiltenmuth Messina; his children, Kimberly Messina Downes, Stacey Messina Lousteau (Ben), Wayne Messina (Ashley), and Mark Messina (Amanda); his sister, Jacquelyn Messina; and his nephew, Dale David Messina. He is also survived by his six cherished grandchildren: Ryan Downes, Emily Lousteau, Jack Lousteau, Ashley Messina, Anna Messina, and Andrew Messina; as well as three beloved step-grandchildren, Zane, Kate, and Ian Pourcy.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Ron throughout his cancer journey, especially Dr. Kiran Zaveri, Dr. Jennifer Silinsky, Dr. Shradha Ahuja along with her oncology team, and the compassionate staff of Southern Grace Hospice, especially Megan, Angee, Gwen, and Jada, whose exceptional care, patience and kindness brought great comfort to Ron and his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Lake Lawn Park.

Ron will be remembered for the love he gave, the traditions he created, the friendships he cherished, and the devotion he showed to his faith, his family, and his community. His legacy of love, generosity, service, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.
