OBITUARY
Rosana Mathieu Garnett
August 21, 1953 – February 17, 2021
Rosana Mathieu Garnett, an avid reader and devoted wife & grandmother passed peacefully away from this world into the presence of God on Wednesday, February 17th at her home in Marrero, LA., surrounded by her family (2 Cor 5:8). She was born to Florence Darensbourg and Pamphyre Benoit Mathieu on August 21, 1953 at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She grew up in Killona, LA with her younger brother Darrell Mathieu, Sr.
She was affectionately called “Rose” and to her grandchildren she is “Maw-Maw.” Rose married her longtime friend & love, Aloysius Garnett, Sr. Al first saw her when Rose was only 14 years old and by the time, she was 18, they took their sacred marriage vows right here at Corpus Christi-Epiphany Catholic Church nearly 50 years ago. Brenda Woods and Rose, cousins, married Richard and Aloysius Garnett, brothers.
Rose loved dancing, casinos and she played cards as if her very life was on the line. She hated to lose! Rose was very opinionated on Sports & Politics and would welcome a debate on either topic with a fiery vigor! She also enjoyed the time she spent in the Hawaiian Islands with her grandchildren and most importantly she loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Her generosity was often reckless and if she had a dollar so did you! She really loved her Nieces and Nephews. They were like her own children.
Rosana is survived by her husband Aloysius Garnett, her brother and his wife Darrell & Angela Mathieu; her children Trenique & Aloysius Garnett (Jr.), Mia Moore, (Romeo Moore); her five grandchildren, Davion Garnett, Elexa, Elissa, Emerson, Ellia Moore and her many nephews and nieces. All these she loved and touched deeply.
A viewing will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 9 am – 10 am with a Mass to follow. Burial will be at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery located at 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd.

Auntie Rose you are truly one of a Kind and carried a presence like No other! You loved Big with all of your heart and never did you fret to say what’s on your mind and to tell it like it is 💯 As a child I spent summers by you and my Piran and Lord knows how much I loved to do so y’all couldn’t get rid of me till my mom forced me to come home lol. Auntie you will truly be missed by all who were blessed to have you as part of their life and I count my blessings daily being lucky to call you my Auntie Rose. Rest in Heavenly peace. I have to many to share. Every day spent with you was memorable. Playing cards and beating everyone, having debates over sports, leaning on one another when we were happy or sad 😪, just every thing will be a memory. This photo that I shared is when she first went to the hospital and I was given a rose⚘ and held it close to my heart to let you know that you will always be in my heart. I Love You Aunt T.
