First and foremost, Rose loved and was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed travel, boating, and entertaining her family and friends. She was a gracious hostess and a loyal friend. She was a member Marians of the Immaculate Conception, a devotee of Blessed Seelos, a longtime parishioner of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, and a member of Metairie Country Club and Southern Yacht Club.
Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Alvin Samuel Simonson; parents, Leo John McKenna and Gertrude Catherine Donnelly McKenna; brothers, Frank Walter, Leo John, Edward James, and Thomas Patrick McKenna; grandson, Kevin Patrick Hopkins; and great grandson, Bailey Ramon Cadoree.
Rose is survived by her daughters, Anne Lynn S. Hopkins and Carol Rose S. Lavin (John); sons, Alvin Samuel Simonson, Jr. (Libby), Bradley Thomas Simonson (Debbie), and Eric James Simonson (Judy); grandchildren, Michael, Erin, Shannon Simonson Francis, Sarah, and John Simonson; Tyler and Elizabeth Hopkins; Lauren Farshad Cantrelle and Jeffrey Farshad; Brian and Sean Simonson; Alec, Sophie, and Patrick Simonson; and great grandchildren, Emma and Hannah Simonson; Preston, Rosemary, and Jackson Cantrelle; Wesley Rose Simonson; Rose Catherine and Lee Samuel Francis.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at the Phosphor House and to the attentive and compassionate nurses of Medpass.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Clayton J. “Beau” Charbonnet III, in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 12 PM. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. Rose will be laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery following the chapel service.
