Roy was born on October 18, 1933 in New Orleans, the 2nd child of Irma Perilloux and Herbert Daigle. He was surrounded by loved ones as he passed away in Portland, Oregon on January 25, 2023 at the age of 89.
Roy was a man of few words who liked to sit back quietly and observe, contributing his dry wit and wisdom with quiet confidence and a gentle smile.
Growing up in New Orleans, Roy played baseball and ran track. He graduated from Alcée Fortier High School then was drafted into the Army in 1953, served for 2 years. Afterward his military service he attended Tulane University and studied accounting. He retired as a successful office manager with a Cardiothoracic practice. When football came to New Orleans in 1967 Roy became a lifelong fan and watched every game with rare exception.
Roy married his sweetheart Gerry Vidrine in Mamou, Louisiana during a double wedding with Gerry’s sister Beverly and Richard Vezinat in 1959.
Roy and Gerry were eventually blessed with a daughter Holly. They cherished family time together outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking, traveling in their RV, boating, and spending weekends at their camp at Lake Maurepas. Roy and Gerry had legendary seafood boils for friends and family, fully embracing their Louisiana roots. He was an enthusiastic gardener and loved keeping his property meticulously manicured.
Hurricane Katrina came along and blew Roy and Holly to Portland, Oregon in 2005. He discovered golf and played at least weekly with friends and on vacations. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends at Cherry Blossom Center and the Moose Lodge. He loved traveling, especially to Hawaii, Costa Rica, Sedona AZ, Europe and the coasts of Oregon and Washington.
Roy remained faithful in the Catholic church and volunteered with St Vincent de Paul, Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, as well as participating in fundraisers for The Pancreatic Action Network (PanCan). He loved woodworking and making toys, canes, planters etc. for craft fairs and gifts.
He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend to many. He will be missed by all those who knew him well and loved him.
Roy is preceded in death by Gerry Vidrine Daigle, his beloved wife of 45 years who died of Pancreatic cancer, sister Doris Daigle Keegan and his parents Irma P. Daigle and Herbert Daigle. He is survived by his loving daughter, Holly Daigle, daughter-in-law, Pam Voltz and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Christopher's Church, 3924 Derbigny St, Metairie, LA 70001 on Monday, February 13th with a viewing at 11am followed by a mass at 1PM. A burial will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Roy’s life.
