Aunt Ruby, such a fun-loving person. We will miss her wit and beauty.  I am grateful that the sisters (Ruby, Elaine and Betty) were able to spend time with each other last year.

One of the things I remember most about my mama is her joy for music. She loved anything Big Band and loved dancing the jitterbug with one of her brothers when they were young. Some people lose their rhythm as they age, but, not Ruby. She still had it. As soon as we would get in the car, I would turn on my favorite music. It did not matter if it was Michael Buble (her favorite singer), Maroon 5 or John Mellancamp, she would start twitching her right shoulder, then she would start this little bounce in her seat. So cute and always so happy. She passed that rhythm on to her children and we are so grateful. Mama, when you are out and about, swing on by, I’ll always have good music on for you. 

Ruby was always someone who would welcome you into her home with a smile and a hot meal and one cold stormy winter night I put this to the test. A freakish winter storm closed interstate 10 from Texas to Florida because of icy road conditions so I got as far as New Orleans before I could go no further. I immediately called Miss Ruby to see if she could take in her stranded son in law and without hesitation she said of course. As I made my way over to her home I was imagining what treasure troves of leftovers might be lurking in that little white refrigerator. Perhaps some crawfish etoufee or maque choux or if I was really lucky a pork roast sandwich ! Miss Ruby met me at the door and after some small talk I thought I would be polite and offer to take Miss Ruby out to eat knowing full well she would offer me some leftovers in short order. To my horror she replied to my invitation to go out on the sleet covered roads with “I’ll get my coat”.  Apparently Alex had cleaned her out only hours before, I guess timing really is everything. In any case I spent two days iced in with Ruby watching TV, reading and playing Texas hold ‘em. I’m not saying Ruby is a great poker player but I did have to swing by an ATM on the way home, I’m not sure but I think she cheats. I really got to know my mother in law over those two days and all who knew her are better for the experience. I will miss her terribly. 

Ruby was an incredible lady. As a young man she made a lasting impression and impact on myself. Although I only knew her being a family friend, I will always remember her sweet voice and smile. She was an awesome Lady and will live on each day through the legacy she has left with her children and grandchildren. She is truly an angel that has now earned her rightfully deserved wings. God bless her and her family. She undoubtedly touched so many lives and will be cherished in our memories and hearts.

We will miss you Aunt Ruby. You were a blessing in this life. Your wit and spunk will never be forgotten.  Prayers for the family.  We love you all
