Rodolfo C. "Rudy" Velado
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodolfo C. Velado, affectionately known to family and friends as "Rudy." He passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Rudy was born to Filiberto Velado and Hortencia Chacon, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives.
He is lovingly survived by his sisters, Gladys Velado and Aida Avelar; his son, Fernando Velado and his wife, Leslie Velado; his daughter, Norma Bagby, and her husband, John Bagby; his former wife, Norma Y. Velado; his grandchildren, Alice Velado, Nicholas Velado and his wife Amy Velado, and Todd Bagby and his partner Sara Davis; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Riley Velado, Ally Velado, Austin Velado, and Wyatt Bagby. He leaves behind a family who will forever treasure his love, guidance, and unwavering support.
Throughout his life, Rudy worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He built a successful career in food broker sales, later spent several years in jewelry sales with Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, and eventually returned to food broker sales, where he continued doing what he enjoyed. Never one to shy away from hard work, he often worked two jobs at the same time—not out of obligation, but out of love for his family. Despite the long hours, he approached each day with enthusiasm, optimism, and an adventurous spirit that inspired those around him.
Rudy embraced life with joy. He loved Mardi Gras, family gatherings, relaxing at the beach or by the pool, dancing, and bringing people together for dinners and celebrations. His home was always open to family, friends, and anyone in need of companionship. He
believed everyone deserved kindness, respect, and a warm welcome, regardless of their
background.
Those who know Rudy will remember his infectious smile and his remarkable outlook on
life. To him, every day was a blessing and every person he met deserved respect and
dignity. Even after suffering multiple strokes, he continued to remember birthdays,
faithfully sending cards to family and friends because he wanted each person to know they were loved and remembered. He rarely complained, choosing instead to accept life's
challenges with grace, courage, and quiet strength.
Rudy also took pride in presenting himself well. Whether going to work, attending church, or celebrating with loved ones, he was always impeccably dressed—a reflection of the dignity and self-respect with which he lived his life.
Above all else, Rudy's greatest legacy is the love he shared so freely. He taught his family the importance of hard work, kindness, perseverance, hospitality, and finding joy every day. His warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
