Ruth (Ann) Bateman, 92 years old, passed away on July 21, 2026. Born in New Orleans, Ann lived the past 28 years in Picayune, MS. Preceded in death by her parents, Carl J. and Blanche Z. Callihan, and her husband Stephen E. Bateman, Ann is survived by her son Robin (Cheryl), her niece, and casino running mate Pam (Ronnie) Dauzat, and many loving relatives.
While Ann worked several jobs, she was most proud of her 20 plus years as an employee of Westside Elementary School in Picayune.
A special thanks to the neighbors (Carol, Ann, Danacee, Billie, and Allen) who kept an eye on Ann and occasionally provided rides around town. Also, thanks to Marie with St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, and the Home Health Care nurses with both Forest General Hospital Home Care, and MedCentris.
Thanks to the staff at Highland Community Hospital who provided excellent care to Ann in her final days, and her PCP, Dr. Ahmad Haidar who always showed care and compassion during the past 20 plus years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, preferred.
