Sal Federico

Salvadore Joseph Federico passed away on October 8, 2017, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Rose Marie Greco Federico. He is survived by his children Greg Federico (Susan), David Federico (Jacqueline), Julie Federico Gernhauser (Maurice), and Gina Federico Ney (John); grandchildren Christopher (Joanna), Michael (Joelle), Meghan, Sarah, Sean, Coby, and Alyssa; great grandchildren Sammy, Robert, Elise, and Ellie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam Federico and Agatha Bertucci Federico; brother Frank Federico; sisters Anna Federico Jourdan, Conchetta Federico Stassi; and his spouse Rose Marie Greco Federico. Sal has been an educator in the Greater New Orleans area for 71 years. He began his teaching career at Jesuit High School in 1946. In 1956, he and his wife opened Ecole Classique, a private school in the New Orleans area. He was involved in the operation of Ecole Classique until his death and still taught 2 classes in Geometry. In his 71 years of teaching, Mr. Federico touched and influenced the lives of thousands of students. He was a Charter member of the Krewe of Bacchus, and served as a Board Member of the Krewe of Bacchus for 20 years, as well as Parade Chairman for 15 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124, beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 2:00. Inurnment will take place privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sal J. Federico Scholarship fund at Ecole Classique which will allow Mr. Federico to continue to live out his dream of preparing the students to develop and become successful community leaders.
