Sal was born in Astoria New York, son to Anthony Moschella and Sadie Costello. He spent his childhood in Astoria, but the family relocated during the war years to New Orleans, LA. Sal attended Tulane University while living in New Orleans earning both a Civil Engineering and an Architectural degree. He also met and married Elizabeth Ann Reeves while living there. After college he served his country in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Adak, part of the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska. He was fortunate to spend some time in the Japanese islands as well, which he loved to tell stories about. After his discharge, he joined the family construction business working alongside his father, uncles, and numerous cousins in New York.
Eventually starting his own business, Sal relocated his family back to New Orleans where he was in Real Estate Development for the better part of 35 years before he eventually retired. He and his wife, Libby, travelled extensively and made many longtime friends during those years. His children also benefitted from his endeavors, enjoying trips to Europe and The US Virgin Islands, and summers in Pensacola and Mexico. Not wanting to sit idle, Sal found work with the Jefferson Parish Engineering Department where he worked for another decade. His hobbies during retirement included bowling, gardening, and walking.
Sal is survived by his sister Janet Groman; his three children, Victor Charles Moschella, Lizette Ann Coughlin, and Anthony Charles Moschella; and nine grandchildren, Jordan Coughlin, Paige Coughlin, Kimberly Moschella, Dean Moschella, Colin Moschella, Ava Moschella, Carter Moschella, Lily Kate Moschella, and Grey Moschella.
Visitation followed by a Memorial Service will be held from 2-3:30pm on April 20, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. There will be a reception following the services at Lizette's house, 2521 Fern St. NOLA. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to your local Veterans Organization.
