She was born in Garyville, Louisiana on November 15, 1937 to Frank Joseph and Leona Marie Poche Poleto. She went on to earn her high school diploma at St. Stephen’s.
Shirley enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who she adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Leona Poleto; and her brother Frank J. Poleto, Jr.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Janene Messina Allen (Derrick) and Ann Carmen (Shawn); sons, Frank Messina, Jr. (Debra) and Errol “Roy” Elcock; grandchildren, Adam Allen Jr., Adrion Allen, Brittany Allen, Brianna Allen, Frank Messina III, Samuel Messina, Jennifer Marsilia, Sarah Marsilia, and Alexandria Carmen; great grandchildren, Amiyah Allen, Adalyn Travis, and Adam Allen III; companion of nearly 40 years, Paul Pembo; and her son-in-law, Adam Keith Allen Sr.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Passages Hospice, especially Starr Lynne and Anthony Christiana.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 12 PM. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. A graveside service will follow the chapel service in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
