Sidney S. Miller

April 4, 1935 – June 29, 2026
Obituary of Sidney S. Miller
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Sidney S. Miller was born in Columbia, Mississippi, and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, he was a lifelong LSU fan and devoted supporter of Mike the Tiger, whom he proudly escorted to countless football games. Sidney was also a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan and a true sports connoisseur, always eager to watch anything related to LSU or the Saints.

Sidney met the love of his life, Ellen Raye Katz, when they were children. He attended her sixteenth birthday party in New Orleans, and from that day forward they were inseparable. They married several years later and built a beautiful life together, eventually settling in New Orleans where they raised their three daughters and created a home filled with love, laughter, and community. Sidney was a devoted husband for 68 years and a steady, loving presence in the lives of those he loved.

Every summer, the family looked forward to their annual beach vacation. What began as trips with just the five of them eventually grew into gatherings that included spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those vacations became treasured family traditions, filled with laughter, memories, and time together that everyone looked forward to year after year.

Sidney began his career as a buyer at D.H. Holmes, specializing in draperies, linens, and domestics. He later served as General Manager of Maison Blanche on the Westbank and went on to manage the Metairie store. Following his time at Maison Blanche, Sidney became Vice President of Gus Mayer, where he worked until retiring at the remarkably young age of 49.

In retirement, he devoted himself to managing his real estate interests and, most importantly, enjoying his family. He enjoyed splitting his time between his home in New Orleans and his beach condo in Gulfport, creating countless memories with those he loved most.

Sidney never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether they were family, lifelong friends, coworkers, or someone he had just met. His kindness, generosity, quick wit, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Sidney is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen Raye Katz Miller; his daughters, Leslie Miller, Erin Miller Springer (Randy), and Stacy Miller Kohn (Mike); his grandchildren, Jennifer Ostermann (John), Myles Bragman (Amy), Hannah Kornrumpf (Ryan), Ilana Robert (Hunter), Jason Kohn (Kimberly Hall), Jeffrey Kohn, and Matthew Kohn; and his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Alexandra, Bennett, Benjamin, Audrey, and Evelyn. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Harold Miller (Rici), as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 4:00pm at Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3. Rabbi David Gerber will officiate.

The family has requested those wanting to donate in Sidney’s memory do so to the charity of their choice.
