Sidney B. "Paw Paw" Sissac was born on January 24, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He entered into rest on August 18, 2026, at the age of 99. Sidney worked in transportation during the Korean War in the US Army. He also had a career later in life as a butcher. Sidney was a man of faith, attending St. Rita Catholic Church. His life was enriched by many hobbies, including gardening, cooking, woodworking, and fishing.
Sidney was a strong family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Pauline Sissac; his spouse of 82 years, Doris H. Sissac; his sisters, Gloria Frank, Clovina Frank, Pauline Augustin, Erma Argas, Emily Valteau, Marguerite Robinette, and Augusta Jupier; and his brothers, Joseph Sissac, Livingston Sissac, Emile Sissac, Rogers Sissac, and Henry Sissac.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis S. Moore; and he was the greatest grandfather in the world to his granddaughter, Belinda M. Brinson; his great grandchildren, Chester Lavell Brinson II (Jessica Olivari), Sidney Benjamin Brinson (Ana Brinson); and his great-great grandchild, Sidney Benjamin Brinson Jr.
The family would like to give special thanks to Emile McClellan, Alvin and Sugar Broussard, Carroll Denesse, Terisita Alsandor, and Raven Ross, who cared for Sidney and his family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124, on September 11, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Mass at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Paw Paw’s final resting place will be at All Saints Mausoleum, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, in the Infant Jesus Corridor, Tier D, Crypt 11.
