

Silas Daily Cunningham, Jr., P.E. passed away at the age of 71, on Monday, September 26, 2016 after a sudden and brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gaynell. He is also survived by his three children Kathleen C. Valenziano and husband Rob, Silas D. Cunningham, III and Elsbeth Cunningham; grandson John P. Valenziano; siblings Theresa C. Paparozzi, Kenneth N. Cunningham and Elsbeth C. Stein as well as their children. Silas was born in San Diego, California to the late Capt. and Mrs. Silas D. Cunningham, USN. Si and Gay arrived in New Orleans, in 1963 where he attended Tulane University pursing his dream of Civil Engineering. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development while in school. He interned and eventually worked for Gus Perrin moving on to G.A. Heft & Co., where he designed Earhart Expressway. He joined Dixon and Associates becoming a partner in Dixon and Cunningham which later grew to become Brown, Cunningham and Gannuch. Projects he was involved in included Clearview-Veterans Intersection improvement, Harahan Pump to the River and Cousins Pumping Station. For the past nine years he has worked with Digital Engineering. While at Digital he continued working on Jefferson Parish infrastructure projects, such as Parish Line Pump Station and Sewer Capital Improvement Program projects. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 11:00am.
