Sophia Erin Chifici departed this life peacefully at home on Thursday, May 18, 2023. She was born in New Orleans on June 5, 2002, to Renee Gascon and Keith Chifici. Sophia is survived by her parents and her brother Vito Frank Chifici.
Sophia was a graduate of St. Dominic School and Mount Carmel Academy. She enjoyed three years as a student at Louisiana State University and was accepted to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). She was excited and looking forward to pursuing her dreams in New York City beginning in June. A kind and funny young lady, Sophia was loved dearly and had a special relationship with her parents. Sophia was “Daddy’s little girl” and Renee’s “best friend in the world”. The love between Sophia and her brother Vito was beyond measure. She was a wonderful sister to Vito, who taught him to be brave and helped him through his heart health challenges and many hospital stays. Vito loved Sophia dearly. She had a contagious smile, sparkling eyes, and an infectious laugh.
Sophia loved being with her family and friends, shopping, and traveling. Her love for the finer things in life was her passion, and she was always ready for the next adventure. She always lived life to the fullest, encouraging others to “step out of their comfort zone” and, most importantly, telling them, “JUST BUY IT!” The laughter, the love, and the adventures she shared with family and friends will live in all our heart’s forever! The next time you visit New York, take a minute to look at the top of the Empire State Building and think of the heights Sophia’s dreams would have taken her, have a cannoli on Mulberry Street, or grab a bagel and head to the Brooklyn Museum of Art! Love life daily!
Sophia is survived as well by her aunts and uncles, Dane Gascon, Mark Gascon (Dana), Leslie Stevens (Jerry), Jami Wieman (Michael), Cheri Rollings, Mark Chifici (Joan), Darren Chifici (Chasidy), Eric Chifici (Christina), Garrett Chifici (Candice), Chandra Chifici-Scarber (Richard), and Candice Chifici (Douglas). Sophia was also loved and will be sadly missed by her cousins Zachary, Raquel, Alex, Jaques, Taylor, Reese, Everly, Emersyn, Zoe, Max, Eli, Dillion, Erica, Alaina, Olivia, Nicholas, Therese, Vincent, Dominic, Vivienne, Giovanni, Luca, and Noah.
Sophia was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank Angelo Chifici, Barbara Anselmo Chifici, Clifford Lawrence Gascon, Betty Wichterich Gascon, Aunt Karen Gascon, and Uncle Erin Gascon.
Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Friday, May 26, 2023, at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70124. In honor of Sophia’s love for fashion, we encourage those attending to bring out their inner fashionista full of color to celebrate Sophia’s bright and sparkling spirit!
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., there will be a rosary followed by the Words of Remembrance. Mass will start at 2:00 p.m. The burial will be at Lake Lawn Park.
