Stefano Vincent Campo, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved. Steve was born on December 15, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1964 and continued his education at Northeast Louisiana University where he earned his pharmacy degree. Over the course of his professional career, he owned Campo’s Medical Pharmacy, building a successful business servicing nursing homes throughout the state. While he excelled at providing pharmaceutical services to so many in the community, he truly enjoyed the lasting friendships he made along the way. Although he retired close to 20 years ago, his desire to further serve his patients led to him coming out of retirement and joining Pontchartrain Pharmacy where he worked until his 2nd retirement in June of this year. Steve had many pastimes that he enjoyed. He loved fishing, boating, and hunting. He was an avid Mardi Gras fan. He was a former member of the Krewe of Zeus and current member of the Krewe of Okeanos for the past 45 years. He reigned as King Okeanos XLVIII in 1997. During his more than 30 years of service as a Board Member, and over a decade as president, he served as Ball General Chairman and coordinated the Past Kings’ luncheon. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan, always in attendance to support his granddaughters’ softball, volleyball, and flag football games at De La Salle High School where he proudly wore his alma mater’s colors. He was a Saint’s season ticket holder and rarely missed a home game. When not at a Saint’s game, he could faithfully be found at the Fairgrounds race track watching the horses run and visiting with numerous friends. Steve was quite the foodie and could be found at one of the many restaurants he frequented during the week. On Sundays, in usual Italian tradition, he could be found cooking and having “family dinner.”
Steve is preceded in death by his parents Vincenzo “Jimmy” Campo and Josephine Catalanotto Campo, his son Vincent Steven Campo, and his sister, Anna Mae Campo Sciarrotta. He is survived by his daughter, Marianna Campo Miceli and his two granddaughters, Giana Grace and Olivia Lucia Miceli. He is also survived by his siblings, Carolyn Campo Marino (Vincent), and Genevieve Campo Vinciguerra (Anthony). Steve is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was fondly known by those closest to him as “Papa.”
Our family would like to give thanks to the many sitters who helped care for him in his final months. Their personal care and touch gave Steve comfort and security. He always knew he was loved and cared for at all times.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend services for Steve at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18th, from 5pm to 8pm and on Saturday, September 19th, from 9:30am to 11am. Catholic Mass will be held in the chapel at Lake Lawn on Saturday at 11am.
