Stephen Mary Viguerie passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the age of 48. Stephen was born in New Orleans on March 25, 1973, the seventh child of Yvonne Laan Viguerie and the late Shaun C. Viguerie, and was fondly called Spot due to a circular shock of black hair that grew from a birthmark on his scalp.
He was the beloved brother of Patrick Viguerie, Kathleen White, Isabelle Gsell, Claire Layrisson, Paul Viguerie, and Brigid Viguerie. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Kristin Jorgensen of North Carolina.
Stephen was a graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School, Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and the Florida Culinary Institute in West Palm Beach. Stephen was smart, hilarious, handsome, talented, and stubborn, and his passions included fishing, camping, biking, cooking, storytelling, and more. His heart was the Pearl River where the family spent weekends while growing up, and he loved fishing the river, running his trot line through the water, eating fresh crabs, and even jumping off the Pearl River bridge. Stephen was a master cycler, riding bikes through the mountains of Colorado, California, and North Carolina, and the flatlands of Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and elsewhere. He won many cycling races and claimed first prize in sub-zero weather at the Rouge-Roubaix, rolling through the finish line holding a frozen bottle of water. Stephen was a chef and true foodie, and his businesses included Good Food, Inc. in Cashiers, North Carolina, the Carmel Belle in Carmel, California, and Junipero & Co. in Sonoma. He cooked countless spectacular gourmet meals for family and friends, and his latest venture was to host dinner cruises on Lake Pontchartrain in his boat, the S-Cargo. Stephen didn’t have 9 but more like 99 lives and we are grateful he died peacefully, as he rarely did anything peacefully. He was truly an original and will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road in Metairie, Louisiana, on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:30AM. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Stephen’s memory to Bridge House / Grace House, 4150 Earhart Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70125, attention: Kevin Gardere.
