Steve was born to Lawrence & Geraline Sintes on August 30, 1961. He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence Sintes Jr. and his beloved sister Pamela Sintes. Steve was a lifelong fixture at West End in New Orleans either at Sintes Boat Works or his Uncle Dave’s Sintes Fiberglass Designs. From Dave he learned early on about fiberglass boat construction from the drawings up. As manager of Sintes Boat Works he put that knowledge to use making repairs and improvements on a variety of boats & yachts in his family’s business. He was proud of having been part of the family business that has succeeded over the decades making it possible for this community to enjoy our waterfront.
Steve was into cars, girls, boats, water skiing and swimming in the lake in his youth. Weight lifting became a lifelong passion & he was as happy in the gym as on the lake. In the last few years he enjoyed mountain biking on the spillway trails and growing hybrid hibiscus flowers in his backyard nursery as well as his time at the gym. Luckily he also enjoyed the variety of boats he got to work on & occasionally test run. When he would see a new boat in the harbor he couldn’t wait to learn about her and her history. Steve was closely involved in the Pam Sintes Foundation and especially enjoyed the end of summer regatta that the foundation sponsored to raise funds to help the survivors of domestic abuse and violence. Growing up in Bucktown, spending all of his life there and in West End gave Steve an appreciation of how lucky we are to have this beautiful place to call home. When a white dove landed on the yard fence one time, Steve took it to heart as a sign of peace. The most recent discovery Steve made are the bald eagles and opsreys that sometimes perch nearby. Steve will be remembered for his kindness, his enduring friendships, his loving heart, and his genuine wonder at the natural world around us. And if he had to wear a shirt to some event, he would prefer not to go.
Steve will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his mother Gerry Sintes; his son & daughter-in-law Steve Jr & Jessica Sintes and his grandchildren Stella, Jameson & Shira Sintes; his nephew and family Oswald II & Shayla Owens and children Jackson & Parker Owens; his former wife Darlene Sintes: his beloved companion Christen Lombardo; and a multitude of friends and relatives.
A visitation for Steve will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.
