Those who knew him best simply called him “Beaver”, a nickname given with affection, worn with pride, and never fully explained to outsiders. Later on in life, he also adopted a second name of "Pappy", given by his grandchildren, which he also wore with great pride. Beaver was deeply beloved, for his generous heart. Above all, his family was his world, and he spent his life making sure they knew it (and that they didn't take themselves too seriously).
Steven was married for 23 years, to Stephanie Held, who was the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Helena Held, wife Stephanie Held, and great-nephew Tyler Cerise.
He is survived by his children: Kara Held (Samuel Mitchell), Sean Held, Kelsea Dilbert (Colin) and grandchildren Kyle and Caitlin Dilbert, who carry forward his warm spirit and his penchant for a good laugh. He also leaves behind his siblings, Leslie Cheatham (Robin), Stacy Reinoso (Carlos), and Tim Held (Pam), who hold a vault of childhood stories they’ve promised to use only for good. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of which he loved dearly.
To honor his humble, low-fuss nature, services will be private. In lieu of a formal gathering, his family asks that you share a good story, enjoy a hearty laugh, and remember Steve just as he was.
