

Susan Schoennagel Meteye passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born in New Orleans on February 10, 1946. After graduating from St. Mary’s Dominican High School in 1964, she attended college for a few years before starting a family. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church and Shrine and helped run the school fair for many years when her children were there. She attended lunches with her St. Anthony of Padua and St. Mary’s Dominican lunch groups. In her free time, she liked going to lunch/dinner with family or friends and take trips to the casino. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandsons, and she loved to attend all their activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent J. Meteye, Jr.; parents, Charles J. and Margaret Gonczi Shoennagel.
Susan is survived by her daughters, Sheri M. Petta (Joe), Lauren M. Schmidt (Brant), Melissa M. Kinler (L.J.), Sondra M. Craig (Jeff), and Amanda M. Henderson (Nathan); grandchildren, Michael and Vincent (Meagan) Giovingo, Margaret, Joseph, and Molly Schmidt, Ashley M. Cole (Robert), Alicia J. Lancon (Jean Paul), John Jaeger, Jr., Jeffery, Carolyn, and Bradley Craig, and Madeline, Elijah, and Joshua Henderson; great grandchildren, Archibald Cole, Leo, Luc, and Samson Lancon and Pius Giovingo; brothers, Charles J. Schoennagel, Jr. and Christopher J. Schoennagel (Carol); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Carolyn McDonald, Ana Bergeron, and Sharon Morris, as well as the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of both East Jefferson General Hospital and Ormond Nursing and Care Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Monday, June 22, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with a Mass following at 12 PM, officiated by Fr. Stephen Okoro. Susan will be laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery immediately after the Mass has concluded.
