On Sunday afternoon, February 6, 2022 Suzanne LeBon Dorsey, age 75, quietly passed away in New Orleans surrounded by her loving family. Suzanne was born on November 17, 1946 in New Orleans, La. to Dr. Lawrence J. LeBon, Jr. and Marion S. LeBon. She is survived by her siblings Lawrence J. LeBon, III, Dr. Brian G. LeBon, and Lisa L. Cowand. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Suzanne graduated from St. Matthias Elementary School, Holy Name of Jesus School, Mercy High School, and Loyola University.
While at Loyola, she was a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority and remained friends with many members throughout her life. After graduating from Loyola University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Suzanne devoted her life to raising her children. From serving as room parent and attending every field trip, play, and performance to hosting spectacular themed birthday parties, Suzanne was the ultimate mom. Everything she did was done with love, enthusiasm, and flair. Suzanne had a special gift of making everyone feel loved and special and carried that with her in every aspect of life.
When her children were older, Suzanne returned to her true calling as a teacher. During her teaching career, Suzanne taught at Lincoln Elementary, John James Audubon Elementary, Strehle Community School, and G.T. Woods School. While teaching, she received her teaching certificate in elementary education from Holy Cross College. Over the course of twenty years, Suzanne taught hundreds of children who still remember her today. Her special gift and love of her life was teaching children with autism, her “special angels”. Suzanne taught with her signature love, support, and enthusiasm and her students thrived in her classroom as they experienced her boundless positive energy. In 2015, Suzanne received the “Teacher of the Year” award while teaching at G.T. Woods. This honor was one of the highlights of her life.
Suzanne is survived by her loving children: Ashley L. Dorsey, Allyson D. Tuttle (Paul), and Michael M. Dorsey, Jr. Affectionately known as “Gabby” and dearly loved by her grandchildren: Nathaniel R. Tuttle and Ian J. Tuttle. She will be greatly missed by her lifelong friend, Margaret Barone, and her “special angel”, Lance Badeaux. Suzanne’s final contribution to the world was giving the gift of sight to someone. Hopefully that recipient will see the world as positively as she did.
Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 10:00 a.m.-noon followed by a Funeral Mass at noon. Internment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Autism Speaks are welcome.
