Suzanne Homberg Skorge

February 21, 1955 – May 10, 2026
Obituary of Suzanne Homberg Skorge
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Suzanne Homberg Skorge, 71, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana, after a brief illness, surrounded by family, love, singing, and joyful storytelling.

Born on February 21, 1955, in Florence, New Jersey, a wonderful little town on the Delaware River, Suzy was the beloved daughter of Bill and Teddy Homberg. She was raised in a big boisterous family, surrounded by her siblings, cousins and many, many friends. Though she grew up in a small town, she carried within her a huge spirit of adventure that shaped the course of her remarkable life. As a little girl, she regularly slid on trays from the riverbank down the long steep incline to the water’s edge. Her mother insisted she wear bright winter jackets as her love for playing in the snow regularly caused her to fall deep into the snowbanks hugging the roadside.

At age 16 she talked her mom into letting her go to Peru along with her exchange sister, Martha Seijas to have the great adventure of climbing the mountain to Machu Picchu and taking a train through the Andes into the Amazon jungle.

At just 19, Suzanne moved to New Orleans and began an adventurous career at sea, first working on river cruise lines and later on ocean cruises that carried her around the world. It was during her years at sea that she met the love of her life, Finn Skorge. They married and shared thirty-five wonderful years together before Finn’s passing in 2021.

As Suzy and Finn began planning for their family, Suzy came ashore and discovered her true calling: caring for children. She first worked at a daycare center before opening her own in-home childcare business, where for nearly 40 years she lovingly cared for generations of young children. Suzanne adored babies and poured her heart into helping them grow, nurturing them with patience, kindness, and endless energy. Families trusted her completely, and many of the children she helped raise remained part of her life well into adulthood.

Suz was the proud and devoted mother of Christopher Julius Skorge, Alexander Vidar Skorge, and daughter-in-law Alayna Skorge, as well as her Norwegian stepchildren, Finn Morgan and Ann Karin Skorge. Nothing brought her greater joy than her children, their lives, their education, and their successes. She loved telling tales of their latest exploits, with immense pride. Her boys loved their Mama dearly, and share wonderful tales of their many adventures.

She is also survived by her loving siblings, Fredericka Wicker (Carey Wicker), Martha Seijas Hayden (Paul Hayden, deceased), and Rich Homberg (Tracey Homberg), along with her cousins, nieces/nephews and countless lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by Suzy’s loyalty, humor, generosity, and fierce devotion.

Those who knew Suzy knew a woman who never met a stranger and never stopped caring for others. She was tireless, relentless in helping those around her, and always worried more about everyone else than herself. She was funny, energetic, caring, helpful, and instantly made friends wherever she went. Suzanne was a warrior in every sense of the word — resilient through hardship, steadfast in love, and endlessly devoted to family and friends. She was a hustler through and through, could fix almost anything, solve nearly any problem, and make people feel welcome and cared for the moment they met her.

Even through loss and difficult times, Suzy remained deeply connected to the people she loved. She treasured lifelong friendships, delighted in joyful storytelling, and filled every gathering with warmth, laughter, and song.

Her family and friends will remember her as a woman of extraordinary heart — loyal, generous, adventurous, and full of life — whose love and care shaped generations of children and touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Suzy’s Family and friends will be coming together to celebrate her life on Saturday, June 13th. Folks will be gathering from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Wicker home, located at 2600 Labarre Lane in Metairie, to share memories, laughter and loving reflection of Suzy’s vibrant and caring life and enduring spirit. Please join them.

Dearest Suzy, we love you and will always miss you.
